By simply tweeting a verse from The Weeknd’s song, “Wicked Games,” on March 6, Drake turned many heads in the singer-songwriter’s direction.

Fast forward to five months later (July 31), the Toronto natives shared a hometown stage to perform Drake’s “Trust Issues” at the 2nd annual OVO festival. “Not only did he inspire me to get out there and sing better on stage, he inspired me writing wise, music wise, just to better my product,” Drake tells Billboard.com’s The Juice on The Weeknd.

Drake continued to tell us that we should expect to hear The Weeknd on his sophomore album, “Take Care.” “He’s on my album a lot,” Drake says of The Weeknd. “We really collaborated a lot on this album.”

“He’s one of the greatest artists I’ve ever heard,” Drake says. “To hear someone with an incredible body of work is very rare. It’s very inspiring. We formed OVOXO, which is taking over right now. I’m proud of him. He works real hard. He’s just an incredible person, [has] become a really close friend to me.”

Watch out Jay-Z and Kanye West, we have another bromance flourishing.

‘Kid’ in Kid ‘n Play Arrested in Los Angeles

by Michelle C on August 10, 2011

The 47-year-old rapper-turned-actor was taken into custody and booked into the Los Angeles County Jail.

Christopher Reid, the “Kid” in 1980s hip-hop duo Kid ‘n Play, was arrested at his home Tuesday (Aug. 9) for missing multiple court dates tied to 2010 DUI arrest, according to reports.

The 47-year-old rapper-turned-actor, who has had a warrant out for his arrest since Aug. 2, was taken into custody and booked into the Los Angeles County Jail around noon. Bail was set at $26,000, and upon his release later Tuesday he told TMZ the whole thing was a “clerical error.”

Reid was arrested July 8, 2010 for driving with almost double the legal alcohol limit and later pleaded no contest and was ordered to seek counseling and pay fines.

He was also sentenced to three years probation and his failure to show up to court hearings on at least two occasions brought on the arrest warrant.

Along with Christopher “Play” Martin, Reid delivered a positive, feel-good brand of hip-hop in the late 1980s until the gangsta rap era arrived. The group’s last album, “Face the Nation,” was released in 1991. They are perhaps best known for transitioning their act to the big (“House Party” films) and small (Saturday morning cartoons) screens.

OutKast’s Big Boi arrested on drug charges

by Michelle C on August 8, 2011

Rapper Big Boi has been charged with drug possession after allegedly being found with ecstasy pills, MDMA and Viagra.

The OutKast star was arrested in Miami on Sunday and was hit with three charges of possession of controlled substances.

He is also being charged with one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

The rapper – whose real name is Antwan Patton – is denying all accusations against him. He was arrested by customs officers and border patrol dogs after he left a cruise ship.

His bail for the offence has been set at $16,000.

Patton’s lawyer Daniel Kane insisted his client will be “completely exonerated” of all charges as the drugs found were not in his individual possession but part of the group‘s haulage.

Kane said: “While Big Boi was travelling with his group and friends, a small amount of contraband was found in the collective luggage.

“I am confident when the entire facts are aired Big Boi will be completely exonerated.”

After posting his bail and released, the rap star took to his twitter page to write: “Fresh out, baby!”

Apparently referring to the Viagra, he later added: “Sh*****t they said it was the Love Boat (sic).”

The Rap Hannah Montana is set to make her big screen debut.

Nicki Minaj has joined the cast of Dreamworks’ upcoming film Ice Age: Continental Drift. Along with the Harajuku Barbie, Joy Behar, Nick Frost, JB Smoove, Heather Morris, Josh Gad, Alan Tudyk, Kunal Nayyar and Alain Chabat have been added to the fourth installment in the franchise.

20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios previously announced the initial voice cast, which includes Drake, Jennifer Lopez, Queen Latifah, Aziz Ansari and more.

Steve Martino and Michael Thurmeier are slated to direct the flick, which is set for a July 13, 2012 release. The pic follows Scrat (Chris Wedge), “whose pursuit of an acorn has world-changing consequences that help Sid (John Leguizamo) reunite with his long lost family.”

Minaj is yet to make her big screen debut, though previously revealed that she specialized in drama while attending the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts.
