The former skateboarder turned quick-spitter is impossible to ignore.

(Billboard.com) – “It’s one of those records we cut last minute,”says Yelawolf of “Hard White (Up In the Club).” “Hard White (Up In the Club),” released on iTunes Monday (Aug. 8), is Yelawolf’s first single off his Shady Records debut, “Radioactive” (Sept. 27).

The former skateboarder turned quick-spitter is impossible to ignore. Yelawolf’s 2010 was impressive, and notched his Shady Records deal thanks to the hype built on the release of his mixtape “Trunk Muzik,” which was re-released later that year with a few extra songs as “Trunk Muzik 0-60.”

As such, Yelawolf sees “Radioactive” as his official freshman release; and the hard banging “Hard White,” featuring Lil Jon, is an excellent way to herald the occasion. Yelawolf had recorded most of the album in Las Vegas when his team insisted on one more track.

“It just pissed me off, like, ‘what the fuck you mean we need one more record? Give me a fucking beat, I’m over this shit,’” Yelawolf tells The Juice. His manager KP, along with Pooh Bear and J Dot, spent all night digging through beats, and the next day after playing a few, turned on the one that would become “Hard White.” “That was it,” Yelawolf says. “It inspired me to write. I actually walked into the booth after writing it, and that’s a one take vocal cut. It’s just straight all the way through.”

Lil Jon’s guest spot, however, came as surprise to Yelawolf. “I was in Atlanta and KP was like ‘come check out this mix on this record.’ He took me to Patchwork Studios [and] hit play. I was like, ‘Oh shit.

Yelawolf recalls heading out to Mally Mall and Pooh Bear’s studio on the outskirts of Vegas and secluding himself there for two weeks to record “Radioactive,” often sleeping at the studio. “There were some days where [we'd] go in there and knock out two records, and it’s just like, ‘yeah that’s it, that’s it.’ We never really had any questions about what was good and what was not… It flowed really well.”

Yelawolf sees “Radioactive” as the logical next step in his career, expanding on the 808-heavy “Trunk Muzik” to include a wider array of influences, everything from country to classic rock. “I was sitting on concepts and inspirational records that I had written two, three years ago that I couldn’t put on a mixtape,” he says. “They were worth more than a mixtape, worth more to me than just putting [them] on a mixtape, too personal.”

“I was hungry for it, I was waiting for it,” Yelawolf says of “Radioactive.” “I’ve waited a long time for a real freshman release, an official freshman release from a major [label]. This is my opportunity.”

Kanye West has stage rant

by Frank White on August 8, 2011

Rapper “bombs” at Big Chill

Kanye West spectacularly blew his chance to show his talents at the Big Chill festival at the weekend.

The rap star headlined the gig and much was expected of him, particularly after he made careful pre-gig arrangements.

He made sure there was a lofted, mechanical stage which would let him get close to the crowd and stayed on the grounds to try and enjoy the atmosphere of the place.

Yet it all went wrong as he angered fans by arriving late, suffered voice problems and became involved in a couple of on-stage rants.

At one point he even accused officials in the music industry of treating him like he was “insane.”

He told the crowd, “This is my most important gig of the summer but I’m really frustrated. I only have half of my voice. I just want things to be right. This is the reason we started half an hour late.

“There is so much bulls**t going on in the music industry right now. Someone needs to make a difference. People treat me like I’m insane.”

Fans slowly grew angry over West’s behaviour and turned restless until he pacified them with an emotional tribute to Amy Winehouse.

He sang her hits ‘Back To Black’ and ‘Tears Dry On Their Own‘ before calling her a “beautiful Queen.”

The Game: Dr. Dre narrates my album

by Frank White on August 4, 2011

Game regards his new album to be like a “movie” and credits Dr. Dre as its narrator.

The 31-year-old rapper is incredibly excited about his upcoming release The R.E.D. Album. According to Game, the album is lyrical cinematography, a motion picture in sound.

“The album is real theatrical; it’s a movie,” Game told MTV News. “And it’s narrated by Dr. Dre — the entire album.”

Superstar rapper and producer Dr. Dre initially signed Game to Dre’s Aftermath label. Dr. Dre also oversaw Game’s The Documentary debut.

Unfortunately the pair had a temporary fall-out when Game and 50 Cent, also signed to Dre’s Aftermath label, publically shared resentments. Dr. Dre contributed no vocals or production to Game’s subsequent albums after this feud.

Dr. Dre and Game have since reconciled. Dr. Dre has taken a more active role in Game’s career and has contributed an exponential amount of his musical artistry to The R.E.D. Album. Reminiscent of the good old days, Game has unlimited fervour for the creative collaboration he and Dr. Dre produced on The R.E.D. album.

“It’s a real quick story about a day in the hood,” Game explained about his favourite single off the album, Good, Bad, Ugly. “I’m telling a story to police, but as we do growing up in the hood trying to get ourselves out of trouble, once we’re apprehended, we make up a couple of different stories. At the end, after we done been in there for damn near a whole day being interrogated, the truth comes out.”

The R.E.D. Album is set to be released on August 23.
